Pacha Mama (2012)

For orchestra

My star sign is Taurus, an earth-bound sign, firmly rooted in matter. PACHA MAMA is an expression that in the indigenous South American language Quechua means Mother Earth, calling up the Inca divinity symbolising agriculture and fertility.

The composition is divided into three movements without interruption, in which the elusive sonic magma in the first movement, a journey in discovery of the song of the earth, is forged harmonically so as to be then left to palpitate, live and throbbing, measured out by an agitated rhythm that perfects its definition. The final movement consecrates the ritual dimension of the contact between man and earth, between spirit and matter, sealed by the lyrical voice of PACHA MAMA , entrusted to the strings in the high register. An expression of the desire to understand the unfathomable laws that govern the biological and spiritual life of our planet, a Mother Earth continuously capable of taking us by surprise. This composition is dedicated to Valentina Lo Surdo, she too born under the sign of Taurus, a tireless voyager across the PACHA MAMA.
